Chiku-sapodilla

Esta fruta no tiene un aspecto muy apetitoso; a primera vista parece una patata. Pero está muy buena. Aquí le llaman "kiwi indio". Tiene unas semillas hiper-brillantes en el centro. Según he visto en internet, esta fruta es de la misma familia que el "zapote", muy conocido en latinoamérica (Manilkara zapota).

I also like this fruit. It is like sapodilla in Central America. At first sight it is not really appealing, looks like a potato. But it is really tasty. It also has some really cool seeds inside that I bet are used for artisanal stuff. In local language it is called "chiku" or also known as "indian kiwi".

I like Panasa (Jaka)

El "jack-fruit" , jaka o panasa en idioma local es la fruta arbórea más grande que existe, nativa del Sur de Asia. La fruta crece sobre el tronco. En el mercado, los venden a unas 300 rupias la pieza (unos 5 euros). La fruta está llena de "gajos" de pulpa separados en "compartimentos" individuales. Cada "gajo" tiene una semilla dentro que, según he leído, se puede cocinar, como alubias. En el mercado también venden los "gajos" de la fruta ya listos para comer en bolsitas, a 20-40 rupias (entre 30-60 céntimos). Sabor muy especial, no sabría describirlo, un poco como a azufre??? En todo caso, me gusta.

The jackfruit (panasa, in local language) is the largest treeborne fruit in the world. There is a tree at the Kala Academy, where the symposium is held, but they are still not very big. In the market though, you can find huge ones and they sell them for around 300 rupees the piece. So far, I have only been buying peeled segments, which they sell between 20 and 40 rupees the bag. Really like the taste....

Mercado de Panjim market

Este, con diferencia, es el que más me ha gustado hasta ahora. Amplio, aireado y con abundancia. Había por lo menos 3 puestos de cocos verdes, el famoso "jack-fruit" y muchas otras cosas que iré documentando. Además, lo bueno que tiene es que puedes subir al segundo piso y tener vista aérea (bueno para fotos).

The market is the first place that I went to chack as soon as I arrived to Panjim. This is the one I like most so far: big but not crowded and with a high variety of products. To my relief, lots of "tender coconuts" and even outside in the street. I will continue reporting about all these products.... but so far, still fasting on coconut water.... till hunger comes...

Durante los últimos días he estado recibiendo felicitaciones dobles. Una porque ya he presentado la tesis y otra por mi cumpleaños que fue el 1 de abril (32 primaveras). Gracias a todos por los ánimos.

Lots of things to celebrate this last days. I just accomplished my PhD about the nesting of the leatherback turtle in Gabon, Central Africa and I also just turned 32 (my birthday on the 1st of april). I have been in the Canary Islands to do the official presentation and now back home.
