El término "Bycatch" o "Captura accidental" expresa uno de los mayores problemas medioambientales en la actualidad. La gran mayoría de las artes de pesca industriales son NO SELECTIVAS: es decir, capturan las especies objetivo y una gran cantidad de especies no deseadas que salen perjudicadas. Esto es lo que llamamos CAPTURA ACCIDENTAL y entre otras son: tortugas marinas, cetáceos y aves marinas. En estas fotos, una tortuga víctima de los anzuelos de los palangreros.

One of the biggest environmental problems is the unsustainable over exploitation of the oceans. Tha majority of the fishing techniques at an industrial scale are NON SELECTIVE. This means that, apart from the target species, there is a lot of non-target species that are badly injured or even die for no reason at all. This is what we call BYCATCH and this term is of major concern nowadays. Sea turtles, seabirds and cetaceans are among common BYCATCH species. In these pictures, a turtle caught with a long line hook.
