MUCHO. Los barcos camaroneros llevan unas redes gigantes a ambos lados que van barriendo el fondo marino y arrastrando todo lo que pillan a su paso. Un auténtico desaguisado. Se calcula que para capturar una tonelada de camarón hay otro tanto de "CAPTURA ACCIDENTAL"; es decir, otros organismos que no eran el objetivo y serán descartados inútilmente. Hay especies de tortugas omnívoras, como la lora (Lepidochelys olivacea), que suelen estar asociadas a los bancos de camarones de los que se alimentan. Son víctimas frecuentes de estas redes mortales donde mueren por asfixia. RECUERDA AMIGO: SI COMES CAMARONES (=GAMBAS O LANGOSTINOS) ESTÁS CONTRIBUYENDO A ESTA MASACRE.

These two pictures illustrate how turtles and shrimp are related: sea turtles are commonly caught in shrimp trawlers´nets. These nets sweep the oceans in a non-selective way catching wanted and unwanted species (what we call "BYCATCH"). It is thought that to obtain a ton of shrimps, an equivalent amount of bycatch species will die for no reason at all. So BEAR IN MIND: WHEN EATING SHRIMPS YOU´RE ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTING TO KILLING TURTLES AND MANY OTHER MARINE SPECIES. This is a very unsustainable practice that should be abolished.
